Does Death Scare You?

One of our many pastors at church preached last night. His sermon was from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. It was one of the best sermons I have ever heard. He read scripture that all of us need to hear. I think we often miss this wonderful message about our impending deaths and what it means to be a Christian. While it is true that we will feel the sting of death just as the lost, our eternity is to be much different. Open your hearts to this message and be encouraged and be sure to share it with others.
1 Thess.4:13-18 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. Here is some other scripture that will bless your heart.1 Cor.15:12-34 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.  If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For "God has put all things in subjection under his feet." But when it says, "all things are put in subjection," it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.  Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf? Why are we in danger every hour? protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day! What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."  Do not be deceived: "Bad company ruins good morals."  Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. I think it is time for a big hallelujah! Lord, thank You for Your word. It makes me sing. Thank You for the ones who will spread the gospel. Bless them and keep them. Amen

It's Just a Game

Here in the deep south, they love their football. Friends, it's just a game! As an outside observer, I can see that it has almost become idol worship. There is nothing wrong with good clean fun but I must say it has come to the point where people are down right mean if their team does not win. What happened to good sportsmanship? What if we were this zealous about the lost? We must be careful where we put our heart and our praise.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Luke 12:33-34 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  I can not help but wonder what the world would be like if we put our time and efforts in helping others. In this season when we celebrate our Lord Jesus' birth, can we just remember the lost and hurting of the world? Reach out to someone who needs a little tender loving care. You will be blessed beyond your imagination! Lord God in heaven, I pray for this world who so desperately needs You. Don't let us shut our eyes to the ones who need You. Lord, I ask for Your care for the ones who are on missions to take You to the nations and for Your harvest to be mighty. Amen

Thanksgiving

Everyday is a day of thanksgiving if you belong to the Lord! If you do not, fall on your knees before Him and ask for His forgiveness today because you may not have a tomorrow.
Heb.12:28-29 Therefore let us be thankful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
2 Cor.9:15 Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!
Ps.95:2-6  Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me--practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.1Thess.5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. I serve a mighty God who is able to snatch you from the jaws of the devil and all the evil he holds. I pray, even though you have a free will and can make any choice, that you will know from His word that you need a savior and He is Jesus Christ the Lord. I will not judge you for I have do not have the right, but God will judge you, please ask for His mercy. Father, in Jesus name, give us the ones we have been promised by You. Amen  Cristo biena! Jesus is coming!

Words of Eternal Life

John 6:63-65 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe." (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."
Jesus said, I am the bread of life!
John 6:27-58  Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal." Then they said to him, "What must we do, to be doing the works of God?" Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent." So they said to him, "Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." They said to him, "Sir, give us this bread always."  Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.  But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.  And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day." So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven."  They said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" Jesus answered them, "Do not grumble among yourselves.  No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.'Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me--  not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.  Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.  This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.  I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh."  The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"  So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.  As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever." Lord Jesus, there are so many who have turned away from You. I am asking for Your mercy on these wayward souls. We are all guilty and have no saving grace except through Your blood. Your words have power if hearts will only open to them and receive Your gift of eternal life. My heart feels as if it could burst because of the sorrow I know lost people will have without You. Lord, help me to be open to the lost that are around me. Help me show the love of Christ to the hurting. For Your glory, Amen

Scoffers and False Gospel

Jude 1 17-23 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.  They said to you, "In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions."  It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,  keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.  And have mercy on those who doubt;  save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh. Lord, I see this today in our society. People are being led away by others who have forgotten Your word or never knew it. Help us Lord to take a stand for what is right in Your eyes. Your word is a guide for us to live godly lives, let not Your word be perverted. Lord, have mercy on us. Amen 2 Cor.11:3-4 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. There is no other gospel!!! Gal.1:6-10  I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Ready for Every Good Work

Titus 3:1-7 Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.  But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. God's word does change you! You can not listen and really hear and not be changed. No matter who you are or what you have done, God still loves you. He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for sinners. Romans 5:7-8 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person--though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die-- but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. If someone tries to judge you, remember this, we are all equal at the foot of the cross. You don't change, God does the changing by the power of His word working in your heart. I am sure of this because I have witnessed His mercy.Father, we cling to Your word. It feeds us what we need to grow in Your grace. Lord, melt our hearts and let us love all people in Your name for we were once lost and You gave us hope through Your Son Jesus. Amen

We Are Redeemed

Last night my pastor read from God's word about why we are redeemed. It is to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. I have been to Venezuela to tell of God's love and His plan for us. But for now, I will tell of Jesus and His love using this blog. I may only reach a few people with God's message of hope but then they will tell others and then they will tell others and soon it will be a lot of people. If you are reading this, it is no accident. God oversees all things and He calls a lot of people to hear His word and to make a choice of repentance from sinful ways.
Lord, I pray for the lost. I do not think they understand the meaning of separation from You for eternity. The reality of hell, the constant torment that they will deserve because they could not bow to Your majesty. I have no words except Yours and Your grace is sufficent. Amen
Luke 23:2-4  And they began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king." And Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" And he answered him, "You have said so." Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, "I find no guilt in this man."
We had a need of a savior who was sinless. Jesus provided that need, he is the only way.
Acts 4:10-12 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead--by him this man is standing before you well.  This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."Our purpose and mission for Christ as we are witnesses to His Resurrection.Acts 2:31-33  he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God to make intercession on our behalf. Don't deny Him. He will soon come to take us home. Be ready, trust in Him!

Marriage is a Covenant

The definition of covenant:  a written agreement or promise usually under seal between two or more parties especially for the performance of some action
So we enter into a covenant with each other for marriage. It is supposed to be a lifetime commitment. What happened? God's new covenant with us is for eternity! He expects us to honor our marriage covenant unto death as He honors His covenant with us.
1 Cor.7:27-28 Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife. But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that. You see for yourself that God says we will have worldly troubles if we marry. It is because we try to make each other happy instead of keeping God first. Seek God and He will give you both the right feelings you need for a happy healthy marriage. The devil knows our every weakness. He is always there to entice you about other people outside your marriage and he will use your weakness to create misery in a marriage. Run from this for it will be your downfall. Love your spouse like it is the last day you will ever see them. Put them first over your selfish wants and be amazed at the difference you will see. Infidelity is not only with people but with things. You can love your hunting, fishing golfing etc. or your shopping, grand kids, crafting, etc. just as much as you could love a mistress or a lover. Pray everyday for the Lord to keep your marriage safe from worldly troubles. Repent from sin and run if you are being tempted!!!1 Cor.7:39  A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord. Eph.5:22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.Eph.5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 1 Tim.3:12 Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well.God himself describes His relationship to us, his bride, in terms of a marriage. Rev.21:1-6 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
