Are You on the Brink?

BIBLE MEDITATION

“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good Word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.”

Hebrews 6:4-6

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

Have you ever been to the supermarket and over near the deli, they’re giving away little samples of cheese? It tastes so good! You love it and say, “Give me 3 pounds of that.” You carry it to the register, and the checker says, “That’ll be $30, please. It’s imported from lower Mongolia…very rare.” You say, “Well, just put it back. I know what it is and how it tastes, but I’m not going to pay that high a price.”

Our passage from Hebrews chapter 6 is very interesting. It talks about something that’s impossible. It’s totally 100% impossible for some people to be renewed to repentance and get right with God.

Who is this talking about? Those who at one time were enlightened, their eyes were opened. They’ve tasted the power of the Word of God.

These aren’t saved people who’ve lost their salvation, but people who come up to the brink of salvation. After they know the truth and have nibbled at it, with eyes wide open they say “No” to God, refuse Christ, trampled beneath their feet His precious blood, and as it were, crucify Jesus again. In so doing, they commit a greater sin than those who nailed Jesus to the cross at Calvary.

ACTION POINT

Here’s the good news: If you want to be saved, that means the Holy Spirit is working in you. Anyone who wants to be saved can be. Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus. Believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead. You will be saved (Romans 10:9). Who may come? “Whoever” (Revelation 22:17). You can come and take the water of life freely. Come to Jesus.

Are Some People Predestined to Go to Hell?

BIBLE MEDITATION

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

Some people believe there is a set number of certain persons who are going to be saved and that number has been fore-ordained—already settled, nothing we can do about it. They believe God has predestined some for Heaven and some for Hell. Don't get the idea that God created a little baby and said, “You, child, are going to go to Hell, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.” I don't believe that for one second!

I believe God wants everybody to be saved. Read today’s verse—black print on white paper. Listen, God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

ACTION POINT

It’s one thing to believe this. It’s another to get out there and start sharing the Gospel with people. What are you doing to present them with the opportunity to be saved? Are you sharing the Lord Jesus Christ?

Whosoever…That includes you!

BIBLE MEDITATION

“And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely” Revelation 22:17

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

You don’t have to pay one blessed cent for the water of life. Take it and drink freely. You’ll never have your heart’s deepest thirst satisfied until you’re satisfied with Jesus. I promise on the authority of the Word of God, He will save you,

Let’s say Samuel D. Smith, born July 4, 1990, asks, “But Pastor Rogers, what if I’m not one of the ‘elect’? How can I know for sure I’m one of the ‘elect’”?

Would it help Sam to believe he’s one of the elect if Jesus had said here, “Let Sam Smith come and take of the water of life freely”? No, there’s more than one Sam Smith.

What if it said, “Samuel D. Smith”? There might be another Samuel D Smith. It might not refer to our Sam.

What if it said, “Samuel D. Smith, born in Sam’s hometown on July 4, 1990”? There could be another Samuel D. Smith born in his town on July 4, 1990. By now you’re saying, “Adrian, you’re getting ridiculous.”

Let me solve this. Let’s forget all that and just put one word in there: “whosoever.” That’s exactly what it says: “Whosoever will, let him come…” That’s better than anybody’s name spelled out in detail.

Who are the elect? I can settle that in 30 seconds. The elect are the “whosoever wills.”

ACTION POINT

If you want to be saved, come to Jesus. He’s reaching His nail-pierced hands to you, saying, “Come.” Jesus says come. The Spirit says come. The bride says come. The individual says come. You can come and drink.

Are you worried you’re not “chosen”?

BIBLE MEDITATION:

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Revelation 22:17

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

“...take the water of life freely...” You don’t have to pay one blessed cent for it! It’s there. Take it and drink it. You will never have your heart’s deepest thirst satisfied until you’re satisfied with Jesus. And if you’re thirsty, come and drink. He will save you—I promise on the authority of the Word of God.

You say, “But Pastor Rogers, what if I’m not one of the elect?”

Well, could I be more sure if He said, “If Adrian Rogers will come and drink.” I could say, “Now wait a minute. There’s more than one Adrian Rogers in the world today.”

What if Revelation 22:17 said, “Adrian Pierce Rogers”? There might be another Adrian Pierce Rogers. It might not refer to me.

What if it said, “Adrian Pierce Rogers, born in West Palm Beach, Florida”? Well, there could be another Adrian Pierce Rogers born in West Palm Beach, Florida.

What if it said, “Adrian Pierce Rogers, born in West Palm Beach, Florida, who now lives in Shelby County, Tennessee?” There might be another one born in West Palm Beach.

By now you’re saying, “You’re getting ridiculous.”

Let me just solve this thing. Let’s forget all that and just put one word in there: “whosoever.” Whosoever! That’s better than anybody’s name spelled out. Who are the elect? I can settle that in 30 seconds. The elect are the “whosoever wills.”

ACTION POINT:

If you want to be saved, come. Come to Jesus. He’s reaching out His nail-pierced hands to you and saying, “Come, come, come.” Jesus says come. The Spirit says come. The bride says come. The individual says come. You can come and drink.
