Job A Righteous Man
One of my favorite books of the bible is Job. I love this book more every time I read it. It is a story of great suffering by a righteous man of God. To show his sovereignty, God allows the devil to torment Job. Through no fault of his own, the devil attacks him, his family, possessions and his integrity in his community. Job's misery begins with his loss of his livestock, then his servants and all of his children were killed by a wind that collapsed the house on them. Job fell to the ground and tore his clothes and began to worship the Lord. In his anguish he cried; Job 1:21 Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised. Job never charged God with wrongdoing. Even when the devil attacks Jobs body with painful sores from his head to the bottom of his feet, he never sinned against God by cursing him. His own wife asked him why he did not just curse God and die. His reply was: will we only except good from God and not trouble? His own friends thought he was guilty of some horrible sin for God to strike him with such calamity. Job cursed the day he was born but still praised the Lord. The Lord blessed Job more in the latter part of his life than the first. He had seven sons and three daughters and thousands of livestock. He lived, by the Lord's will until he was one hundred and forty years old.
