BIBLE MEDITATION:
“Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need”
(Philippians 4:11-12).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
When Paul wrote this, he was in prison. But he said, “I've learned in whatever state I am, to be content. All I need is in the Lord Jesus Christ. I don’t have to go outside of Him for contentment.”
The word content literally means “self-contained.” Back when the stock market crashed, there were men who jumped out of skyscrapers, committing suicide. Why? Because the things they were trying to satisfy their hearts with, they lost. That's where their security was. Friend, you’d better have your security, sufficiency, and satisfaction in something that can't be tampered with. God is going to take care of you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
ACTION POINT:
Paul continues in verse 13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." That literally means “I can do all things through Christ who is pouring His life into me.” Learn a life of contentment. Have the contentment of His provision—Christ Himself. The deepest need of your heart can be met in the Lord Jesus Christ.
