BIBLE MEDITATION
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT
Did you know that you can be wealthy and be in financial bondage? If you are wealthy and seek satisfaction in your money, you’re in financial bondage, because you’ll never find satisfaction there.
A poor man has an advantage over a wealthy man because he hopes that if he could get enough, he’d be happy. The rich man says, “I have it and I'm still not happy.” He doesn't even have the hope anymore.
The wealthy are in financial bondage when their wealth increases their worries. Think about it. If what you take in is a result of your inordinate desire to get rich, all you've bought for yourself is trouble. Some people today can’t get a good night's sleep, not because of their poverty but because of their wealth. "In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but in the revenue of the wicked is trouble" (Proverbs 15:6).
The luxury of wealth brings responsibility. The Bible says, "Do not overwork to be rich…” (Proverbs 23:4). Money is a wonderful servant but a poor master.
ACTION POINT
Is your security in your possessions, income, and savings? You know they could be gone in a heartbeat. God wants you to trust in Him for your security. If you haven’t yet, memorize Hebrews 13:5 this week: “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”
