Are Politics Stealing Your Song?

BIBLE MEDITATION

“The burden which the prophet Habakkuk saw: O Lord, how long shall I cry, and You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” and You will not save. Why do You show me iniquity, and cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; there is strife, and contention arises.”

Habakkuk 1:1-3

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

Like many in this nation, you may be discouraged. The book of Habakkuk was written as a song to inspire us to keep singing despite difficult times.

Habakkuk wrote at a time of national calamity for Israel. Everything not nailed down was coming loose, and the devil was pulling nails as fast as he could. We live in a day just like it: anarchy in the nations, apostasy in the churches, apathy in many hearts, and we ask “Why?”

Habakkuk was intensely patriotic. He loved God, God’s people, and his land. Nothing he wanted had worked out. He faced the same questions we sometimes face. We stain Heaven with our prayers, we fast and pray, but things don’t get better. In fact, they get worse.

Some are losing their faith, not on the issue of how the world began but on how the world is ending. They ask, “Why doesn’t God do something? Where is He?”

God allowed Habakkuk to pour out his frustration about God to God Himself! What an encouragement to us: Habakkuk was frustrated, and God listened.

ACTION POINT

Habakkuk wrote his book saying, “This vision is for an appointed time” (Habakkuk 2:3). I believe it was for today. He said, “Tell the minister of music not to stop singing.” Don’t let anything steal your song. Instead of losing heart, redirect your energy to praising God. Sing His praise. Believe His promises. Keep on praising. Keep on believing. Keep on loving. Our God reigns!
