PRAY OVER THIS
“‘Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’”
Matthew 11:28
PONDER THIS
In Genesis 45, Joseph’s brothers would never have known who he was had he not revealed himself to them. He was older. He was dressed like an Egyptian. He was speaking the Egyptian language. The only way they could know him was for him to say, “Look, I’m Joseph.”
Likewise, the only way you’ll know Jesus is for Jesus to reveal Himself to you. You’ll never figure Him out. But you’ve been brought by divine providence to receive this message that God the Holy Spirit might speak to you, and Jesus is saying unto you, “I am Jesus. I’m the Son of God. I want to save you.” So, you lay your intellectual pride in the dust and let Him reveal Himself.
Now, like Jesus, Joseph revealed himself to his brothers. Like Jesus, Joseph forgave and restored his brothers. Genesis 45:4-5 says, “And Joseph said to his brothers, ‘Please come near to me.’ So they came near. Then he said: ‘I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.’” Tragedy became triumph. Notice in these verses Joseph gave an invitation. He said, “Come to me,” and they came. They responded by coming to him. It is time for you to come too.
Why is it important to remember it is Jesus who initiates the relationship with you and not the other way around?
What are some obstacles you face when coming to Jesus?
PRACTICE THIS
Come to Jesus in prayer. Bring before Him your sin, struggles, shame, and burdens.
