PRAY OVER THIS
“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations. For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth.” Psalm 57:7-11
PONDER THIS
Watch what you read and what you see. Decide there are certain things you are not going to watch. Discipline your life. You wouldn’t put garbage in your mouth, so don’t put garbage in your mind. And guard your company, too: “the companion of fools will be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20).
You also need to have determination to stay in the Lord’s way. Joshua essentially said, “I don't know what course others will take, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15, author’s paraphrase). And I love what the Psalmist said: “My heart is steadfast, O God.” If you make up your mind about one big decision, you won’t have to keep making up your mind about a lot of little decisions. Because your heart is fixed, you have determined, “Oh God, my God, I will serve You.”
What does it look like to be determined to live for the Lord?
What are some ways you need to guard your company or your mind this week?
PRACTICE THIS
Confess some of the ways you have failed to guard your mind. Ask God to lead you in His way to keep you steadfast.
