PRAY OVER THIS
“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 6:7
PONDER THIS
Children have a way of discerning who is real and who is a phony. My children know their daddy is not perfect, but none of my children will say their dad is a phony. And they know their momma is not a phony. They know we have our faults, but they know we love God with all our hearts. It should be a genuine love that you have for God that you share with the next generation.
The problem in so many of our homes is that we suddenly get on a religious ritual and regimen and decide our kids are going to learn the Bible. We say, “You sit still while I instill.” That’s not the way God’s Word is to be taught. God’s Word is to be taught creatively—when you go in and out of the house, when you wake up in the morning, and when you go to bed at night. You’re to be constantly teaching the Word of God. How do you do it? Sure, there’s to be a set time of Bible reading but it can also be a natural conversation throughout your life. It can be fun and creative. Just do it diligently—here a little, there a little, line upon line, precept upon precept. It’s not easy, but the accumulative force is so impactful.
What are some creative ways you were taught the Bible?
Who can you teach the Word of God to…a little bit at a time?
PRACTICE THIS
Think about the people you have opportunity to influence with the love and hope of Christ. What are some things they are interested in? What are some creative avenues of sharing God’s truth that may be effective for them?
