PRAY OVER THIS
“And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets.”
Hebrews 11:32
PONDER THIS
The power of God is greater than all the odds that are stacked against you, and the grace of God is greater than all your sins. It is time to stop making excuses.
Gideon had a bad background, but he’s listed in the “Hall of Faith” of Hebrews 11. He held on to God in the face of difficulties. We need to quit living in the past, according to our old identities, and say, “I can be new in Christ and live for Him by the grace of God today.” Here was a man who had great confidence in God: He was a man of faith. As hard as his past was, he didn’t need to worry about who he was.
Gideon was a man who somehow—out of a bleak background, out of people hating him and despising him—had seen God. He had an insight into the things of God; he had character despite difficulties; and he had confidence despite danger. He wasn’t fettered by his fear. Instead, he had incredible faith. This is the kind of faith we need. We need to have faith in God even if there are things in our past that we wish we could change. He will guide us into who we need to be in the future.
What are some of the broken pieces of your past that you need to surrender to God?
How has faith shaped the way you face the hard things of life?
