Mark 6:34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.
The great crowds sought the spiritual food which Christ offered. Christ knew that no one cared for their souls! They were ready and waiting for the gospel.
But He also knew that they needed food for the body.
Mark 6:41-44
41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all.
42 And they all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. 44 And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.We are here to minister to the sheep who have no shepherd. Our compassion for the lost should be our priority. But we often just turn away! What if Christ had turned away? His command was to preach the gospel to the poor, the ones with broken spirits. Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,Only Christ can change hearts! His Word has the power to penetrate the hardest heart! We teach the gospel, we live the gospel, we plant seeds but God brings in the harvest! Christ is our Shepherd!Luke 10:2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.John 4:35 Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.John 12:32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself."Rev.5:9 And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nationLord, by Your power and might! Amen
