Possess Your Possessions

“Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” JOSHUA 1:3-5

PONDER THIS

Remember that when the children of Israel came out of Egypt, they were going into Canaan; they were coming out of the land of bondage into the land of blessing. God told Joshua, “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you." Not “I will give it to you,” but “I have already given it to you.” God was saying to Joshua, “Every place you put your foot down is already yours.” But they had to possess their possessions. Like the Israelites, you have so much that God has promised that you have not yet possessed. There is God’s provision, but there must be your appropriation. And it doesn’t matter what God has done for you—if you don’t appropriate it, it won’t be yours.

How many of you have books in your library at home that you haven’t read yet? That’s the case for most of us. You’ve got books, but you haven’t read them all yet. Now is that book yours? Well, yes. But you haven’t possessed your possession. It’s doing you no good. It’s there; it’s your book. But you have not appropriated that which is yours. We have to choose to take up, and live in, God’s provision. He has provided; will you live like He has?

What are some things you have struggled with trusting God to provide?

According to Scripture, what are some things God has given you to possess? Have you taken hold of those things?

PRACTICE THIS

Take hold of the things of God you have struggled to possess. Live the day joyfully, with hope, sharing love with others, and being patient when things don’t go your way.
