Find True Abundance Through Jesus

PRAY OVER THIS

“And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’” John 6:35

PONDER THIS

Do you know what the name Joseph means? It means “abundance or the one who adds to.” It means “a multiplier.” That’s what Joseph was. What does the name Jesus mean? It means “Jehovah Saves.” And He is also the one whose life is full of abundance. Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10). Who is the thief? Satan. He is the great sub tractor. But Jesus said, “I’ve come that you might have life, and have it abundantly.” He is the Joseph who adds to, who multiplies, and who gives abundance.

A little girl once saw a communion table at the front of the sanctuary. And the little girl had just been learning math, the plus signs, and the minus signs. She looked and saw the cross on the communion table, and she asked her mother, “Why is the plus sign there?” It is a funny question but carries a serious reminder, Jesus Christ died upon that cross to add to us life and to give it abundantly.

How has Jesus added to your life?

Why is it important to remember Jesus is the only one who gives in spiritual abundance?

PRACTICE THIS

Thank God for the opportunity to receive abundant life through Jesus.

Are You Living Abundantly in Jesus?

PRAY OVER THIS

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” John 14:6

PONDER THIS

Jesus gives spiritual life. When He said, “I am the way,” He meant, “Without Me there is no going.” When He said, “I am the truth,” He meant, “Without Me there is no knowing.” And when He said, “I am the life,” He meant, “Without Me, there is no growing. I give supernatural, spiritual life.” Christians are not just nice people trying to do better who have accepted some creed or some code. They are new creatures regenerated supernaturally by Jesus Christ who transforms them by sending His Spirit into their hearts and giving them supernatural life.

Jesus, who gives physical and spiritual life, also gives eternal life. John 10:10 says, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” In verses 27-28 of that same chapter, Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” Jesus is the author of physical life, spiritual life, and eternal life. What does eternal life mean? It speaks of the quality of life and quantity of life. He adds years to life and life to the years.

How has Jesus provided spiritual life for you?

How can you share your testimony about the abundance of life Jesus gives?

PRACTICE THIS

Talk to a friend about how Jesus has provided abundant life for you.

Jesus Gives Us Abundant Life

PRAY OVER THIS

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

PONDER THIS

The life Jesus gives is abundant life. There was more than enough wine for the wedding in John 2. When Jesus fed the five thousand in John 6, there were twelve baskets full left over. When the prodigal son returned to the father’s house in Luke 15, he remembered his father’s house had bread to spare. When our Lord saves us, He does more than just deliver us from Hell, He gives us life abundant and free. He doesn’t merely pardon our sin—the Bible says, “He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:7).

If you have mistreated somebody and said, “Would you please forgive me?” and that person said, “That’s all right, I forgive you,” that is a pardon. But if he take you into his arms and embraces you, that is abundant pardon. That’s the kind of pardon we have in our Lord. He gives us not only abundant pardon but also abundant provision. Our Lord abundantly blesses us. Jesus said in John 10:10, “that they may have life . . . abundantly.” And Ephesians 3:20-21 reminds us, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.” Jesus took our stony hearts and our vessels of clay filled with meaningless ritual and religion and then gave Himself as the well of endless joy.

What stirs in you when you consider the abundant pardon Jesus has given you?

When have you experienced abundant joy from Jesus?

PRACTICE THIS

Encourage someone you have seen exemplify joy from Jesus.

What Team Are You On? Offense or Defense?

BIBLE MEDITATION

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

Do you know what’s wrong with many of us? We’re trying to get out of trouble rather than get into righteousness.

We’re so focused on the defensive side of Christianity that we forget about the offensive, positive approach.

Wouldn’t you like to rise up and experience the abundant life our Lord talks about? Jesus came to give us eternal life—the abundant life. We need to do like the old song says, “Accentuate the positive. Eliminate the negative.”

ACTION POINT

Why don’t you determine today that you are going to get right with God and stay right with God? The abundant life comes as a matter of course once you determine you’re going to lead a life of obedience.
