Seeing the Trinity Reflected in Creation

PRAY OVER THIS

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!’” Isaiah 6:1-3

 

PONDER THIS

Nothing and no one can compare with God because God is not like anything or anyone. God is God. He is separate. But because God is triune, you see reflections of His triunity in everything He created. For example, God has created space, and space is height, width, and depth. You can’t get dimensions without width, or width without depth, or depth without height. They are all part of the same. Each is distinct, and yet each is indistinguishable and inseparable. Or, consider time. Time is past, present, and future. You can’t have a past without a present. You can’t have a present without a future. You can’t have a future without a past. The past, present, and future are all distinguishable—yet each is a part of the same. A man is body, soul, and spirit.

These are not illustrations of the Trinity but reflections of the Trinity in creation. We have the Father above us, the Spirit within us, and the Savior who died for us. The Trinity is not a far-off concept; it is a present reality to all who believe.

God Revealed the Trinity at Christmas

PRAY OVER THIS

“But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.’ So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: ‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, “God with us.’” Matthew 1:20-23

 

PONDER THIS

People race their theological motors to try to illustrate the Trinity. They say, “It’s like this; it’s like that.” We try to compare God to something. But there’s only one God, so there’s nothing to compare with Him. You can compare one like thing to another, but you can’t compare God with anything because there is no other God. There are reflections of His Trinity in everything—reflections, but not proofs. Time and space make our Universe. Time is past, present, and future. Space is height, width, and depth. All belong together. Each is distinguishable, but all are inseparable. You can’t have a past without a present, you can’t have a present without a future, and you can’t have a future without a past. Each is distinguishable; all are part of one. In each example, three things are distinguishable, and yet they are inseparable, not proof of the Trinity, only a reflection.

A wise man said, “Don’t try to explain the Trinity; you’ll lose your mind. Don’t deny it; you’ll lose your soul.” We know of the Trinity by divine revelation as we open the Word of God. The only knowledge we have of the Most High is as He discloses Himself to us.

Do You Believe in the Trinity?

PRAY OVER THIS

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

(Matthew 28:19)

 

PONDER THIS

Three is the divine number. We worship one God, but that one God has revealed Himself in three Persons. Matthew 28:19 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” because our God is a triune God. When heavenly creatures praised the Lord in Isaiah 6:3, how did they do so? One cried unto another and said, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God of Hosts.” Holy is the Father, holy is the Son, holy is the Spirit. And since man is made in the image of God, man is triune in his nature. First Thessalonians 5:23 says, “May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

There are also reflections of God’s triunity all around us. Space is height, width, and depth. Each is distinguishable from the other, but each is inseparable from the other. You cannot have height without width; you cannot have width without depth; you cannot have depth without height. All are part of the same, and all are inseparable, but all are distinguishable. And everything is not only made of space, but it also exists in time. Time is past, present, and future. Now, you can distinguish the past from the present and the present from the future, but you cannot separate them because they are all part of one seamless garment, and you cannot have one without the other. They all reflect the triunity of the Creator because three is the divine number.

Do You Understand the Trinity?

PRAY OVER THIS

“And the angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.’”

(Luke 1:35)

 

PONDER THIS

It has been said, “Try to explain the Trinity, you’ll lose your mind; deny it, you may lose your soul.” This is Bible doctrine. The only reason we believe it is because the Bible teaches it. You may say, “Well, I can’t put any faith in something I can’t understand.” Then don’t turn on the lights because you don’t understand electricity. You may say, “I understand electricity. I’m an electrician.” But even Einstein said he didn’t understand electricity. He hoped before he died he could understand electricity. But he never did.

Don’t think that you have to define or explain God. The only way you know about the Holy Trinity is by what is revealed in Scripture. This is a sacred mystery, but it is absolutely true.
