The Honeymoon That Never Ends

As the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. (Isaiah 62:5)

When God does good to his people, it is not so much like a reluctant judge showing kindness to a criminal whom he finds despicable. It is like a bridegroom showing affection to his bride.

Sometimes we joke and say about a marriage, “The honeymoon is over.” But that’s because we are finite. We can’t sustain a honeymoon level of intensity and affection. But God says that his joy over his people is like a bridegroom over a bride. And he doesn’t mean it starts out that way and then fades.

He is talking about honeymoon intensity and honeymoon pleasures and honeymoon energy and excitement and enthusiasm and enjoyment. He is trying to get into our hearts what he means when he says he rejoices over us with all his heart. Jeremiah 32:41, “I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.” Zephaniah 3:17, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

With God the honeymoon never ends. He is infinite in power and wisdom and creativity so that there will be no boredom for the next trillion ages of millenniums.

Yielded Affection

Biblical faith

Hebrews 11:1-3

[1] Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. [2] For by it the people of old received their commendation. [3] By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

That being said!

God gave us proof.

Not all things are unseen.

God has shown us, it is very clear!

It's clear that man couldn't do these things

There is a God who created all things.

Look to the sky, we see what was created, not by the likes of us, but by a Supreme Being.

Things man only dared hope he could do.

Sky, air, clouds, mountains, creatures, worlds unknown, and one of the most spectacular, the human body!

God will not be denied!

Romans 1:19-21

[19] For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. [20] For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. [21] For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

The sweetest verse with eternal implications!

Romans 8:32

[32] He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Salvation in Christ alone!

John 3:16-18

[16] “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. [18] Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Fulfilled from OT, our Substitute!

Isaiah 53:3-12

    [3]

    He was despised and rejected by men,

        a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;

    and as one from whom men hide their faces

        he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

    [4]

    Surely he has borne our griefs

        and carried our sorrows;

    yet we esteemed him stricken,

        smitten by God, and afflicted.

    [5]

    But he was pierced for our transgressions;

        he was crushed for our iniquities;

    upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,

        and with his wounds we are healed.

    [6]

    All we like sheep have gone astray;

        we have turned—every one—to his own way;

    and the LORD has laid on him

        the iniquity of us all.

    [7]

    He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,

        yet he opened not his mouth;

    like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,

        and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,

        so he opened not his mouth.

    [8]

    By oppression and judgment he was taken away;

        and as for his generation, who considered

    that he was cut off out of the land of the living,

        stricken for the transgression of my people?

    [9]

    And they made his grave with the wicked

        and with a rich man in his death,

    although he had done no violence,

        and there was no deceit in his mouth.

    [10]

    Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him;

        he has put him to grief;

    when his soul makes an offering for guilt,

        he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;

    the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

    [11]

    Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;

    by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,

        make many to be accounted righteous,

        and he shall bear their iniquities.

    [12]

    Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,

        and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,

    because he poured out his soul to death

        and was numbered with the transgressors;

    yet he bore the sin of many,

        and makes intercession for the transgressors.

He is coming!

Are you ready?

Thank You Jesus!

How long can you live without your air supply?

BIBLE MEDITATION:
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
First Peter 2:11 says we are aliens and strangers in this world. We are in the world, but  not of the world. We are twice-born folks in a world of once-born people, and we’re going to find ourselves going against the tide most of the time. We are citizens of another Kingdom.

It’s like a deep sea diver who is underwater and outside his natural environment. He could not live if he weren’t linked to his life supply above. That’s the way we need to live. If we are to survive, we must stay linked to Jesus who is our life.

The Bible says we’re not to set our affections on things beneath, but on things above where Christ sits at the right hand of the Father. (Colossians 3:1)

ACTION POINT:
It’s time to check your lifeline...are you trusting in anything in this world? Are you making friends with the things of this world?
