The Inner Strength of A Godly Woman

“Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.”

PROVERBS 31:10

 

PONDER THIS

A diamond catches and reflects light, but a ruby has an inner glow. The beauty of a ruby is on the inside. And that’s what God is talking about when He speaks of the value of a virtuous wife. Look at Proverbs 31:30, and you'll see what He’s talking about: “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.” Now there’s nothing wrong with beauty, but virtue far exceeds beauty. The word virtue here really means moral strength. The Bible says that because of her moral strength, her husband can trust her. Proverbs 31:11 says, “The heart of her husband safely trusts her.” What does that mean? It means she’s going to be honest, she’s going to be wise, she’s going to be loyal, and she’s going to be prudent.

Who comes to mind when you think about godly women in your life?

How do they exhibit the qualities of godly virtue?

Take time today to reach out and encourage the women you know who exhibit these qualities regularly. Make a phone call or send a text message to let them know.

The Godly Woman | Part II

PRAY OVER THIS

“…to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.” Titus 2:5

 

READ THIS

This passage teaches us the lifestyle the godly woman is to live. Here are some descriptions regarding a godly woman:

Discreet: She is sober-minded, sensible, using good judgment in her daily decisions.

Chaste: She is sexually moral and pure.

Homemakers: A woman’s primary responsibility is to keep a beautiful home. As we learned yesterday, a beautiful home does not necessarily mean a beautiful physical appearance of the home, but a godly home that is beautiful because of the work of Jesus in the hearts of those who dwell in it.

Good: She is kind-hearted.

Obedient to her husband: Submission is not subjugation; wives are instructed to submit to their husbands’ loving leadership in the home. Submitting to her husband’s leadership is biblical and does not mean that the two are not equal.

As you think about the godly woman’s submission to God and to her husband within the family, ask yourself: when is a train more free—on the train tracks or running through the meadow? When you get on God’s plan and begin to obey the Word, you’ll find that God will give you incredible liberty.

The Godly Woman | Part I

PRAY OVER THIS

“…the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children...” Titus 2:3-4

 

READ THIS

God is in favor of beautiful homes; yet these days, our families face many enemies that threaten to drain us of our splendor. The key to a beautiful home is the wife and mother. Titus 2 shows us what it means to be a godly mother and how to make a home beautiful. A beautiful home isn’t just about appearance, rather, it’s a Godly home that is beautiful because of the God-honoring hearts who live there.

This passage first addresses the legacy a godly woman is to leave. She teaches younger women how to instill values in their own families by example. She has the perfume of God in her life. She is marked by holiness and godliness in her speech. She is not to be a false accuser, one looking for scandals, or a slanderer, nor does she indulge in addictive behaviors.

Secondly, this passage tells of the love the godly woman is to learn. Being a mother is not easy, nor is it glamorous, but there is no higher calling. The impression a mother can leave on her children will last a lifetime and has an eternal impact.

What are some things you can thank God for about your mother?

How did your mother shape your life today? How has that affected the way you interact with those you have influence over?

DO THIS

Today, encourage someone you know who is a godly woman, living out the values of Titus 2:3-4.
