A Horrible Destiny

. . . Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. (1 Thessalonians 1:10)

Do you remember the time you were lost as a child, or slipping over a precipice, or about to drown? Then suddenly you were rescued. You held on for “dear life.” You trembled for what you almost lost. You were happy. Oh, so happy, and thankful. And you trembled with joy.

That’s the way I feel at the end of the year about my rescue from God’s wrath. All day Christmas we had a fire in the fireplace. Sometimes the coals were so hot that when I stoked it my hand hurt. I pulled back and shuddered at the horrendous thought of the wrath of God against sin in hell. Oh, how unspeakably horrible that will be!

Christmas afternoon I visited a woman who had been burned over 87 percent of her body. She has been in the hospital since August. My heart broke for her. How wonderful it was to hold out hope to her from God’s word for a new body in the age to come! But I came away not only thinking about her pain in this life, but also about the everlasting pain I have been saved from through Jesus.

Test my experience with me. Is this trembling joy a fitting way to end the year? Paul was glad that “Jesus . . . delivers us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:10). He warned that “for those who . . . do not obey the truth . . . there will be wrath and fury” (Romans 2:8). And “because of [sexual immorality, impurity, and covetousness] the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience” (Ephesians 5:6).

Here at the end of the year, I am finishing my trek through the Bible and reading the last book, Revelation. It is a glorious prophecy of the triumph of God, and the everlasting joy of all who “take the water of life without price” (Revelation 22:17). No more tears, no more pain, no more depression, no more sorrow, no more death, no more sin (Revelation 21:4).

But oh, the horror of not repenting and not holding fast to the testimony of Jesus! The description of the wrath of God by the “apostle of love” (John) is terrifying. Those who spurn God’s love will “drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night” (Revelation 14:10–11).

“And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15). Jesus will “tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty” (Revelation 19:15). And blood will flow “from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 184 miles” (Revelation 14:20). Whatever that vision signifies, it is meant to communicate something unspeakably terrible.

I tremble with joy that I am saved! But oh, the holy wrath of God is a horrible destiny. Flee this, brothers and sisters. Flee this with all your might. And let us save as many as we can! No wonder there is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous (Luke 15:7)!

Save Me A Seat

I recently read where a young lady in our area had died. 

She struggled with drug addiction. 

Her and a loved one had a ongoing so called joke that went " when you get to hell, save me a seat"

Why would you joke about this?

Has the world become so hardened and callous against God's warnings? 

This is a real thing that's going to happen to each and everyone of us.

You will spend eternity in hell or heaven. 

Have we failed in our Christian testimony? 

Our command from the Lord is to make disciples.

Share the gospel of Christ crucified. 

Share the cross and it's power to save to the uttermost.

Is there someone you know that is headed to hell? 

Pray for them!

Speak the word of truth and let the Holy Spirit do the work.

Romans 6:23

[23] For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Revelation 20:9-15

God Doesn’t Want Anyone to Go to Hell

PRAY OVER THIS

“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

Romans 8:29

 

PONDER THIS

Some believe certain people are predestined to Hell and others are predestined to Heaven. But God doesn't predestine anybody to Hell, and He doesn’t want anybody to go to Hell. God wants everybody saved. First Timothy 2:3-4 says, “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth,” and 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

Think of Matthew 21:1-11. Jesus was coming down off the Mount of Olives on the way to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and the crowd was saying, “Hail Him, hail Him, hosanna!” But He knew in just a few days He would face bloody Calvary and the same group that was saying, “Hail Him,” would be saying, “Nail Him.” At this moment, Jesus said with sorrow, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” (Matthew 23:37). In His sorrow, Jesus expressed the reality that God does not wish for any to perish but for all to be saved.

What do you learn about God’s heart through the reminder that He doesn’t want anyone to perish?

How should God’s heart for people to be saved motivate us to share the Gospel with them?

Take time today to share the Good News with someone who God doesn’t want to see perish but desires to be saved.

Was Anyone Created for Hell?

PRAY OVER THIS

For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

Romans 9:17-18

 

PONDER THIS

God does not create people in order to damn them. God does not create people in order to destroy them. God is a God of love. Now, if you think that God wants some to go to Hell, consider this Scripture, 1 Timothy 2:4. It speaks of God, “who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

But you can harden your heart. The Bible warns against people being hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Quoting Psalm 95:7-8, Hebrews 3:15 says, “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” If you harden your heart against God, you will crystallize in your sin, and God’s judgment upon you will harden your heart even more. God hardened Pharaoh’s heart after Pharaoh first hardened his own heart against the Lord, and God destroyed Pharaoh. In the long suffering of God and the warnings God sent to Pharaoh, Pharaoh would not accept those warnings. And he was made an example of God’s wrath. Remember this: God is going to get glory with those in Heaven, and God is going to get glory by judgment in those who go to Hell.

How might you discern if you have hardened your heart against God?

Is this hardening always total or can it happen in various aspects of our lives?

PRACTICE THIS

Read through Romans 9 today, asking God to open your eyes to see anywhere you might have hardened your heart against Him. Ask Him to help you repent and draw near to Him.

Do You Believe in Hell?

PRAY OVER THIS

“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—where ‘Their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’” Mark 9:43-44

 

READ THIS

No matter what people say about Hell, Hell is still there.

May I ask you some questions? Listen to me. If there is no Hell, is not this book a bundle of blunders because it teaches us about Heaven and Hell? Now if you don’t believe what it says, why do you read it? Why do you say that you believe it? Now if there is no Hell, secondly, is not Jesus Christ a deceiver? Do you know who the greatest hell-fire preacher was in the Bible? Had more to say about Hell than any other subject? It was Jesus! People say, “O, I wish you were more loving like Jesus.” Consider the words of the loving Christ in Mark 9:43-44.

Never ridicule a preacher for being a hell-fire preacher because if you do, you’re speaking evil of the Lord Jesus Christ.

CONSIDER THIS

In what ways might you have neglected the reality of Hell?

If we do not take Hell seriously, what implications does this have for the way we live individually and with others?

Spend time this week asking God to make the reality of Hell real to you so that your desire and urgency to share the Gospel with others may grow.

Hell-Worse Than You Can Imagine

151, 600 people die everyday

6,316 people die every hour

105 people die every minute

Nearly 2 people die every second

Over 55 million die people every year

Many of them do not know Christ as Lord and Savior!

They enter into eternity going to Hell and find no peace but everlasting suffering.

Lord, let us not neglect this truth!

God's word tell us that we will spend eternity in Heaven or Hell. 

There is no other place!

God's word is true!

16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16-17

God is putting life into those words!

God's word stands!

6 A voice says, "Cry!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. 

7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass. 

8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.  - Isaiah 40:6-8

What does the bible teach about Hell?

1. Hell is a physical place!

It's real!

It's not a state of mind!

It's not here on Earth!

41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.'

2. Hell is a punishing place!

Hell never improves!

Hell never gets better!

It will not be a place to party in your wickedness!

It's fire, thirst, pain and torment!

37 He answered, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.

38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,

39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.

40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.

41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers,

42 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. - Matthew 13:37-43

49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous

50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. - Matthew 13:49-50

And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. - Mark 9:43

3. Hell is a permanent place!

Don't think Hell is temporary, a place where escape is possible.

There is no escape except by the blood of Christ!

While you breathe, there is hope, after, there is none!

19 "There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.

20 And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores,

21 who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried,

In Dante's inferno story, there is a reference about the inscription on the gates of Hell.

It reads " Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter!

How horrible!

In Hell there is no hope!

We have hope now!

Christ paid the price!

Trust Christ for salvation!

This is your warning!

Choose Heaven!

Share the good news that Christ alone will save You!

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:6

he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, - Titus 3:5

Repent of your sin, trust and follow Jesus!!

37 But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit.

38 And he said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?

39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." - Luke 24:37-39

45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,

46 and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,

One in the Body of Christ

13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility

15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,

16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.

17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.

19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.

22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. - Ephesians 2:11-22

His Kingdom

And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. - Revelation 21:14

The Rock that is Christ

24 "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it." - Matthew 7:24-27

Jesus Authority

28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching,

29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. - Matthew 7:28-29

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. - Matthew 28:18

The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. - John 3:35

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, - John 13:3

For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. - Romans 14:9

25 "Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.

27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. - John 5:25-27

9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,

10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. - Colossians 2:9-10

26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

27 For "God has put all things in subjection under his feet." But when it says, "all things are put in subjection," it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.

28 When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all. - 1 Corinthians 15:26-28

Debt Paid

12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.

13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,

14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. - Colossians 2:12-15

Your Mission

18 And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." - Matthew 28:18-20

Death Is Ugly and Hell Is Real

It is real!

It is ugly!

It brings suffering.

It respects no person.

Its cause is rooted in sin.

It is chasing after every man, woman and child.

The final word is the Lords because we have victory in Jesus death and resurrection!

He has conquered death and the grave. 

There is power in Him alone!

In Him alone is salvation!

2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."

5 And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

6 And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.

7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death." - Revelation 21:2-8

The importance of victory over sin and death through Christ alone!

12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned-

13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.

14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.

15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.

16 And the free gift is not like the result of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification.

17 For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.

19 For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.

20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,

21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 5:12-21

The chasm between Heaven and Hell and its horrible reality!

19 "There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.

20 And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores,

21 who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried,

23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.

24 And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.'

25 But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.

26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.'

27 And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house-

28 for I have five brothers-so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.'

29 But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.'

30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'

31 He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.'" - Luke 16:19-31

Repent brothers and sisters!

6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,

7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,
