Predestined to What?

“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”

ROMANS 8:29-30

PONDER THIS

You can be sure of your predestination to be like Jesus. God looked at those who received the Lord Jesus Christ, and said, “Here’s My plan.” Look: “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son.” Predestination is not dealing with the lost; it’s dealing with the saved. God doesn’t predestine some people to go to Hell, and God doesn’t predestine some people to go to Heaven. God predestines every child of God, everyone who is born again, to be like Jesus.

God wants everybody saved. When you accepted Christ, you received His gift of grace, and you can now start looking like Him! What a gift. You can now be formed into the image of the Son of God, the perfect One. And you can be sure it will happen according to His will.

What does it mean to be formed into the image of Jesus?

Who in your life reminds you of Jesus? What of their characteristics reflect Him?

Encourage someone who has reflected Christ to you. Ask that person about this transforming process in his or her life.

We Will Be Like Jesus

PRAY OVER THIS

“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:2

PONDER THIS

Notice that John linked being like Jesus and seeing Him. Did you know, if you were to see Jesus right now, you would disintegrate? You couldn’t bear it in your body without being transformed. You would not be able to look upon Him.

Jesus dwells in such glory that you could not even begin to approach it. We have sent a man to the moon, but we will never send one to the sun because no one can approach the sun. Likewise, the Lord Jesus dwells in light “whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen” (1 Timothy 6:16). That means we’ll have to be like Him to see Him as He is. If we were not made like Him, our eyes could not stand the sight. But as John stated here, we are going to be like Him, and we’re going to see Him as He is.

What excites you most about being made like Jesus?

As you ponder the difference between God and all people, how does this bring a fresh perspective on the Gospel?

PRACTICE THIS

Today make a list of the ways God is different from us. Reflect on the promise that we will be made like Jesus when He returns.
