Are You a Slave to Sin?

PRAY OVER THIS

“Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God.” Romans 1:1

PONDER THIS

Not only was Paul a saved man, but he was also a surrendered man. Notice what he called himself, “Paul, a bondservant.” The word servant is the Greek word doulos, and it literally means, “slave.” Paul said, “I’m a slave of Jesus.”

You may say, “I don’t want to be a slave.” But you already are. Everybody is a slave to something or someone. If you’re in bondage to sin, you’re in the worst kind of slavery. The unsaved man says, “I won’t be free.” As he seeks freedom, he goes into the worst bondage of all, the bondage of sin. But when a person comes to the Lord Jesus and says, “You are Lord. You are Master,” he or she receives glorious freedom. John 8:36 says, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

What is the freedom of being a slave to the Lord Jesus Christ? It doesn’t mean His will instead of my will; it means His will is now my will. When you understand that, so many things will break out in your heart and mind. May we come to God and say “Lord, I yield my will to You.”

When have you struggled with God and been a slave to sin?

What does it look like to have God’s will as your will?

PRACTICE THIS

Talk to a Christian you look up to and ask how his or her will has changed to be God’s will.
