You’ve Got Everything to Gain, Nothing to Lose

BIBLE MEDITATION:

“And Elijah came to all the people, and said, ‘How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him”...
(1 Kings 18:21)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Jim Elliot, martyred missionary to the Auca Indians, wrote: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” He's talking about giving his life for Christ and the Gospel. The most dangerous choice you could make is to play it safe. You’re safer out on the waves with Jesus than in the boat without Him.

What if the Gospel isn’t true? Let’s suppose what I believe is wrong, the Bible is fiction, there’s no God, and Christ never died for our sins. You come and put your faith in a fictitious Christ. You and I are going to die anyway, so we’re no worse off.

But suppose I'm right: there is a God, the Bible is His Word, and Jesus is His Son. By coming to Jesus, you've got everything to gain and nothing to lose. If I’m right but you reject Him, you’ve lost everything.

Now, it takes more than just my reasoning with you to come to the Lord Jesus, because the Holy Spirit must open your eyes to know the Gospel is true. Anything I can talk you into, somebody else could talk you out of.

ACTION POINT:

Dear friend, God the Holy Spirit is telling you about your eternal destination. I want you to be convinced. He will convict and convince you, but the devil will do all he can do to keep you from it. Don’t yield to him. Instead, ask God to reveal Himself to you. He will.
