"My Lord and My God"

John 20:27-31 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.Oh, what a beautiful site it must have been to see the risen Savior! I know we have no physical sight of His resurrection, but we have all these written accounts by people who witnessed the event. God stirs the heart to receive the hope of Christ and we respond by faith to accept Him or deny Him. When I read these verses, my heart is overjoyed by the gravity of these words! God was faithful, just as He always is, to give us a living sacrifice for our sin. Not one that has to be repeated but one that stands for all time. It was freely given by Jesus, in obedience to His Father, and accepted as the only substitute for the remission of our sin. Heb.10:12-14  But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. John 10:18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father." Acts 4:11-12 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Dear heavenly Father, what a debt we owe, one that can't be paid, a gift freely given by a merciful God and one we don't deserve. Help us to be worthy, to follow You in Your will and to teach the hope that is found in You. Amen

A Son's Prayer

John 17:1-26 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. "I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.  All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. "I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,  I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them." Is this scripture not beautiful? Jesus is giving us a lot of info about Himself and His Father! He gives us a glimpse of His love for His Father, God! Jesus calls His Father the only true God. He speaks of the authority He has been given over all flesh and that He is the giver of eternal life. Jesus lets us know He was with God before the world was created! He tells us that He has made know the name of the Lord God! Everything You have given Me is from You, Father. Your Word is truth! Father and Son are One! He speaks of His betrayal by Judas and how he is the only one He has lost! He asks the Father to protect His disciples from Satan! O Lord, I am glad to read these intimate details of Your relationship with Your precious Son. We pray for this with You. Teach us how to love in Your name. Amen

Death of the Innocents

Today a small child drowned in my neighborhood. It happens that quick! A child, the most innocent of all, went into eternity. She was born into a sinful fallen world that all will leave by death unless Christ comes back to take the redeemed home. Please pray for her family as they come to terms with this tragedy. There will be many days of despair and questions. Why would God allow this to happen? Why didn't the parents keep a closer check on her? Why? Why? Why? Do you know that your days here on Earth are numbered?
Ps.139:13-17  For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
God is our creator! He determines our days! He is sovereign God! He has no beginning and no end! He is Lord over all! You know why we should hate sin? It destroys! Sin has determined why the innocent suffers as well as the evil. We all are sinners, yes even the child because we were born into this world.
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
As members of the human race, God has given us the rain, the sun, the moon, the stars, an abundance of good natural resources, food etc. He did not withhold these gifts, even from the people who deny Him! But He can and will according to His will! He will have mercy and compassion on whom He chooses!
Romans 9:15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
Cling to the Lord with all your might, don't let the devil get a foothold on your life!
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
As a roaring lion - Full of rage. Seeking - With all subtlety likewise. Whom he may devour or swallow up - Both soul and body. (Taken from Wesleys' notes) Did you notice the devour the soul part? Satan wants your soul in Hell for eternity!
James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
This comment was taken from Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary: All sin must be wept over; here, in godly sorrow, or, hereafter, in eternal misery. And the Lord will not refuse to comfort one who really mourns for sin, or to exalt one who humbles himself before him.
Lord, there are many who suffer, some face life with You and some without! All will suffer at some point in life. Lord, I pray for the ones who are seperated from You. By your power, help us to reach and teach them. Quicken their heart to the glory that is found in You. Amen

In Spirit and Truth

There are many false gods but only one true, living God. He is the creator and he is the judge of all mankind. There will be all kinds of doctrines thrown at you but the one truth that has survived all time is the inspired written word of the living Lord, Father Almighty God, who spoke the world into existence! Let me begin to build a picture of my God for you: Job 23:8-9 "Behold, I go forward, but he is not there, and backward, but I do not perceive him; the left hand when he is working, I do not behold him; he turns to the right hand, but I do not see him.
Job 11:7 Can you find out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limit of the Almighty?
Job 37:23 The Almighty--we cannot find him; he is great in power; justice and abundant righteousness he will not violate.
John 1:18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.
Col.1:15-23 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
Ps.139:1-7  O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? There are no daily rituals to keep! There is only faith in the hope that is Christ! There is only knowing that Christ was sent from God to be a living sacrifice, paid once, for all time to satisfy Holy God for our rebellion. Christ is our salvation, there is no other acceptable way to holy God. Only blood sacrifice is the acceptable atonement for sin. You must repent, that is, turn from sin, and follow Christ. My eyes are open to the truth and there is nothing that can change it. Though the world may fall into the sea, God will still be God and He will never change. He is true from everlasting to everlasting! God is good but He is judge and will judge according to His Word. If you deny Him, the bible is clear on the judgment.Heb.9:22-28 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. There are many who claim to know when Christ will return but the bible is clear that no one knows, not Christ, and not even the angels. Mark 13:32 "But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take care when listening to people speaking on God, go to the Word, it is written by God's authority. We want the truth not people's opinions. Study the word deeply, in prayer, for the truth to be revealed. 2 Tim.3:10-17 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra--which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. Reproof means the testing of something to expose it's true nature. The bible is our guide to living. We strive to be like Jesus but the transformation will not be complete until we go home.Father, the more I study Your Word, the more I am in awe of You. Your wise judgments are beyond our comprehension. I fear Your wrath and ask for forgiveness for my failures. Thank You for Your mercy towards us. Father, I know You blind eyes and hearts. But I also know from Your Word that You forgive us when we repent. Make us aware of our hopelessness. Guide us to You through Your Word. Teach us discernment so that we may not be led astray by every false word.  Lord, Your word is good and I praise You! AmenJohn 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”Psalm 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. No past sins can bar our acceptance with him, if we humble ourselves before him, believing in him as the Christ, the Saviour of the world. This comment was taken from Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on John chapter 4. This is the chapter about Jesus and the woman at the well. It tells of the hatred of the Samaritans by the Jews. It tells how Jesus used this opportunity to show the hope that is found in Christ is for all people. And, the water of life He offers satisfies for all time.

You Are A Letter From Christ To The World

2 Cor.3:2-6 You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all. And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
I guess I have read this passage many times but it just did not sink in! We have been bought with a price and Christ will supply our every need. By His power, we will tell the world about Him. He is our confidence!
2 Cor.3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Lord, help us trust totally in You. Make us aware of the freedom we have in You. False religions abound and many are lost and seeking, open their eyes to Your truth. Amen
Jesus came to seek the lost! Are you lost and searching? Do you feel an emptiness that is drowning you?  God's Word can and will change your heart. I pray that you will take the time to read the Word and begin a new life by accepting Christ as Lord and Savior. Many people all over the world do not know you but are continually praying for all people to find the truth and hope of Christ.

How Can You Love Me If You Do Not Know Me?

We proclaim we love God and do not study His Word! We must know Him intimately to really serve Him and love Him. Deut.6:4-5 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Josh.1:8  This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
He has provided the means by which we may know Him. The bible is the inspired word of  God!
2 Tim.3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
There is an ominous warning in Revelations about what will happen if someone adds or takes away from His Word. Rev.22:18-19  I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
We will never really understand the depth of God. Only in heaven, when we meet Him, will His true glory be revealed to us.
Romans 8:19 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Col.3:4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Romans 8:19 The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.
2 Cor.5:5 Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Romans 8:23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
How do you fight the adversary? You don't, God does! You know His Word and against it, there is nothing Satan can do but retreat!! Job 1:7 The LORD said to Satan, "From where have you come?" Satan answered the LORD and said, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it."
Eph.6:10-13 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
1Peter 5:8-10  Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Father, we need Your strength, Your guidance, Your power, Your measure of faith given to each one of us, and Your wisdom to fight this battle. You are our Rock and our Deliverer, reigning King and most high God. Help us to stand firm against sin and wait for You to bring us home. Let nothing separate us from You! In Jesus name, Amen
