His Face Was Like the Face of an Angel

Acts 6:15 And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
Stephen, full of grace and power, doing the work of the Lord, how could you be betrayed? This very much parallels the way Jesus was treated by the Jews. Stephen was betrayed by wicked liars!
Acts 6:9-14 Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. Then they secretly instigated men who said, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God." And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council, and they set up false witnesses who said, "This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law, for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us." But, Stephen being in the spirit, told of all the stories from the old testament that the Jews knew to be true. He answered their charges with the undeniable truth!!He spoke of Abraham and how God told him to leave his kinsman and go to a far away land and how God would give him a great name among the people, and give him a son in his old age. He told them the bible truth about Joseph being sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and about how God was with him and used him when a famine came over the whole land to deliver Abraham's kin from certain death from hunger.Stephen told of the birth of Moses and how he was raised by Pharaoh's daughter and how he lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. He told them about how the people made golden calves to worship while Moses was on the mountain talking with God. God turned away and gave them over to worship idols. After a while, godly men, Joshua, David, Solomon walked in the ways of the Lord.Acts 7:49-53 "'Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest? Did not my hand make all these things?' "You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it." After speaking these words to the council, they were enraged and ran Stephen out of town and stoned him.Stephen's parting wordsActs 7:59-60  And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep. Lord, how can man be so blind? Help us to see with Your eyes and Your heart! Amen
