The Idle Servant

Our employer is Christ! He is our master and king! Are we being humble before the One who has the keys to death and hell? We are here to be a servant for the Lord. To preach the gospel, to love the unlovable, and to nurture the soul.
Deut.10:12-14
12 "And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today for your good?
14 Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it.
Lord, teach us to be Your servant, to honor You and to teach others the wonder that is You. Amen
Col.3:22-24
22 Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.
23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."
God's command about labor :
Gen.3:17-19
17 And to Adam he said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
2Thess.3:6-10
6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.
7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you,
8 nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you.
9 It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate.
10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
Christ, the ultimate Servant:
Phi. 2:7-8 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Matt.20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Ps.123:2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
True freedom:
1 Corinthians 7:22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
Blessed:
Matthew 24:46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Punishment or happiness:
Matthew 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of
Matt.25:30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
Matt.25:23 His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.'
